Zarah Sultana a Labour Party Member of Parliament for Coventry South in the United Kingdom, recently called out new government tax policies which only serve to push more people into poverty.
Poverty rates in the UK are at a 15 year high, whereas the wealth amassed by billionaires has increased at an unprecedented rate during the COVID Pandemic. Billionaires have increased their wealth in the UK alone by well over £106 billion ($146.63 billion, at the time of writing).
Zarah calls out the taxation changes being put into effect, which will increase the burden of working class and older retired people alike. Instead she suggests that it should be the ‘Super-Rich’ that cover the UK’s growing financial costs associated with the COVID measures.
While I had not heard about her before, I have to agree with what she is saying here. Wikipedia tries to trash her reputation, which is perhaps an indicator that Zarah is on the side of good.
